My jetting was 160 48 and I'm perry sure the carb has never been pulled. The original owner said he'd only ridden it four or five times out to his pasture. Never even checked filter change plug or gear oil. His method of mixing oil was to pour half a quart into the tank and shakin it. Nice, I thought it was quite a testament to the bikes reliability when it started on the third kick. After sitting for all that time.

I saw it mentioned that I could
See the kips move through the exhaust port by turning a lever what lever would that be? Not that I'm having
A problem, just wanna see.

The easiest way to check for KIPS operation is to take off the large round slotted cover on the left side of the cylinder. Start the bike up and rev it a couple of times and you should see stuff start to move.

Got a manual? Studying it a bit will help make sense of what is going on under that cover.

Just rode fir a while after switching down the jets to 45/155 bike no longer dumps spoo, just a little at 18 throttle. But it still kinda chops and stutters at light throttle. Like when I'm Rollin back into the driveway trying to be quiet. Should I lean down more on the pilot? The stutter does feel better than before the jetting. Could it be an air screw issue? Im currently tune 1 3/4 out. Thanks for your input ladies and gentlemen.

I would definately go smaller on the pilot jet. I just went to a 35 pilot on my KDX (with RB stuff) and it really makes the bike run much cleaner with the throttle about 1/8th open. I ride around 500-1500 ft.

My wife's bike (stock 220 with woods pipe) has a 40 pilot jet and it runs pretty clean.

If your running a 45 and your at that high an altitude your running really rich. Too much fuel will soften and mellow the power but that can hamper you and the bike once you get passed the dragging your feet while letting the clutch out on level ground stage.

you need to lean the needle.

Thanks guys, I think I got the jetting figured, still at 155 main but dumped down to a 42 pilot, no more spoo! Went down to check the pivots, bout a twenty mile ride? And the Plug came out a nice tan, also runnin like a beast? Guess I'll have to start messin with somethin
Else? Maybe suspension upgrades, the front end doesn't like
My 6'3 220 pound butt. What all would I need for a fork swap? Would like to get 99-03 and maybe have rb mill the tree and axle so I can keep odometer and all that. anyway any invaluable opinions you guys have are appreciated. Love my kdx

There is a whole section on this.

You will need the forks, triple clamps and that is about it if you are using your KDX front wheel. The KDX brakes fit directly on and the caliper is actually bigger on a KDX too for the years mentioned.

Will a float running outa whack make the engine rev? My bike is revvin hard and spraying gas now?float to high or low . Yeah I've read all the float stuff. Just wanna be clear

Sounds like the metering block seal has gone bad. Did you soak the carb in cleaner or use brake cleaner on it?

Just use carb cleaner, haven't soaked it in anything. I have noticed that whenever I move the throttle cable around up by the tree the bike will accelerate just by me wiggling it. Didn't do that before as far as I know. Seems like my throttle cable is really tight at the needle to? Love these learning adventures. Can't get enough of messin with the bike.

Well, the spraying of gas sounds like the metering block seal. What you describe is exactly what happens when the seal goes bad. The throttle cable problem is due to routing. Somehow you changed it's routing enough that it is now doing what you have described. Get that fixed ASAP as it can be very dangerous if it happens while riding.

what is the metering block seal? Is there something on this diagram you are calling a metering block? thanks.

No, that diagram doesn't show it. You can get it from Sudco or Ron Black from a recent thread about it on TT (http://www.thumpe rtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=996210&page=2) ***remove the space*** and another at http://www.dirtrider.net/forums3/showth ... adid=79649 From one of our members...
It's listed in the Sudco cataloge as a "O-ring, Jet Block". Priced at $4.41ea.

Found out, while investigating the throttle, an unseen crack on the throttle tube housing had given way while I was swapping jets. Causing the slide to be slightly up while I was trying to adjust the air screw. Jb weld to the rescue and pow. Nice to know bout the metering block seals. Gotta dig into that to see if those are okay. Are there any springs or sneaky things to watch for in there?

Glad you got it fixed. No, nothing special there. However, if you don't need to screw with them don't unless you have new ones to put in!

Does rb do the machining to fit 04 kx triple and forks to an 01 kdx? I would like to keep my kdx axle and wheel. I've read some threads but just want to make sure. Any thoughts?
