New KDX 220 rider from Santa Cruz

Post by El Penguino »

Hello! I'm the proud new owner of a 2001 KDX 220. All of the awesome content and stories on this site inspired me to buy this bike.

First big ride was out at Crandall/Deer Creek OHV area and I had an excellent time. Battled with the carb for a bit but it ran great all day and rode nearly 35 miles of trails!

Next step is working on suspension to get it dialed for a 225 pound rider! :partyman:

Welcome to kdxrider.net.

Check the jetting, as it has a lot of oil running out the back.

+1 on jetting, looks like you have an aftermarket pipe, likely the PO never rejetted for it. Welcome!

I appreciate the comments about jetting. I definitely noticed that my pipe was much oilier compared to the other 2 strokes in my group. This is my first 2 stroke bike. Cheers!

Welcome!

Yeah, if the KDX is jetted properly, and in good condition overall, you should have almost zero oil out of the silencer other than a fine misting.

Welcome to the team! You are really going to enjoy the KDX on the trails that Northern CA has to offer. Perfect bike for that terrain.

I have really enjoyed my mountain bike trips out there, Fairfax, Santa Cruz, Tahoe, Auburn, Downieville… so much more I want to hit. Would love to bring my KDX too.
