Hi,

i am Laurenz from Germany (Cologne) 29 years old and i just bought s KDX 200 from 2004. I am really happy about it. A few things are there to do, but it is starting properly and ist looking good 😎

Im just wondering why there is slidly nothing written in the Internet sbout the KDX in german 😁?!

I am gonna upload a video of it running the next days👍🏼

USD conversion and an MX rear fender. Also looks to have an aftermarket silencer. Congrats on the new bike purchase and welcome to the group!

Congratulations on the new bike. It looks great. I think you’ll like it even more with a stock shifter. That one is rotated low so it doesn’t hit the chain and sprocket. The stock one has a unique shape to it to clear those which allows it to sit even with the foot peg.

Thank you all 👍🏼 it really is in good shape. I believe one of the pre-owners used it on track and modified it for that. The Pre owner, where i bought it, told me that he only made like 5 riding houres in two years on it and the owner before him refurbished everything of the engine - but of course i have no evidence on that 😁☝🏼 But i believe it, the top end is so clean, thats not doable only by cleaning.

The KIPS hole looks pretty clean, no hard carbon stuff in it, just dark oil… probably its just running with to much oil in the Fuel.

Nice looking machine Laurenz, and welcome! I'm hoping to do the USD forks as well. My machines are coming out of the trailer and into the shop this weekend as I hope to be ready this year when the snow is gone! ........... and with at last name like Graf you'd think I'd "sprechen sie deutsch", but unfortunately just my Grandfather and Dad.....

Many helpful people on this site. Lots of information and people willing to share and some very skilled craftsmen. You'll enjoy it here!

Ya, there should be websites in every language for this beauty!

As for roots, one side of the family (German) came up into Canada (Saskatchewan) from Minnesota in 1905, the other side came directly from Germany to Saskatchewan 1903. You had to be a very hardy and tough person to make it through the Canadian winters then. There was nothing here. Nothing. The Canadian Government would give you for almost free, a 160 acre parcel of land if you would come and settle it and farm. Our ancestors are way tougher than all of us! :grin: Still have distant relatives around Passau.....

Enjoy the KDX! I need to get a rear fender like that as well!

Hi, has anyone a clue of which manufacturer my USD Fork could be? (See the picture above in my first post) I hardly cant find any hint of the manufacturer on it…

Based on the fork protectors having guides and the upper tubes being bronze I would guess 2003 KX125/250. 2004+ the fork protectors didn't use guides, 2002 and older the upper tubes weren't bronze. Basically the same, I think the 125 had a lighter spring and slightly different valving IIRC

Look on the axle lugs. Is that color a Europe only color? Any chance it is Ohlins brand?

What colors are the europe only colors? :?

Interessting is, that the fork protectors are only mounted in the axle lugs with two screws in the front, and without a third screw on the side of it. But all Pictures in the Internet of 2003 KX Models have fork protectors with a third screw on the side…

I think this Fork is from a 1992 KX. I compared some pictures on google. Uff, thats way older than the Motorcycle. Its from 2004… i hope the Fork of 1992 model is working well 🙈

Now in found this on the lug.

Hi, from someone who just had a Benediktiner Weissbier, now a Paulaner Hefe-Weizen. :-)

That does look like the 1990 - 1992 fork guard and fork style.

Look on eBay for pictures of parts that match the numbers on the fork lug, as well as the front hub numbers as well.

Maybe someone painted or re-anodized the upper tubes?

I will deconstruct the fork anyway. Then i measure the sealings and order them according to that.

But do you have a clue how to open the valve screw in the lug?? Its so stuck!!!

Do you know the size of the sealing for these? I cant find the measurements on the internet. Just the OEM Number i can find but not the size.

From looking at some pictures on eBay, I think they are 1989 or 1990. You guys had USD forks in 1989. USA got them in 1990. They would be 41 mm tubes if that is the case. 1991 moved up to 43 mm tubes.

I would put the lug in a vise and slowly warm it up some. It may have blue Loctite to keep the cartridge from coming loose. The end is a 14 mm hex. Also, a cartridge holding tool is needed to keep the cartridge from spinning.

I just locally found Paulaner 500 mL cans in a four pack at Walmart. I have a few 330 mL bottles left over from a six pack, but am thrilled to have found the cans locally. In this area, a fair bit of travelling is needed to find a varied selection of German beers (1.5 hours one way drive to the most variety). Last Friday, a friend and I had half a container each of the wheat beers for tasting:

Ayinger
Benediktiner
Erdinger
Paulaner
Tucher
Tucher Kristall
Weihenstephaner
Weihenstephaner Kristall

Not a bad one in the bunch!

(I was out of Hofbrau, but I love it)

Next tasting is radlers, dunkels and bocks. :-)

Yes i now orderd the 41 tubes, the old ones have this size. I was just confused because on our popular german Motocross-stuff Website 24mx.de it was written that the 1990 KX had 43 tubes. But thats just wrong, i dont know why they are selling this wrong size for the models…

Probably i will just keep the valve in the lug and clean it from the inside with break cleaner - as good as possible. I dont want to break anything….

Its great that you have the chance to buy so many different german beer at your area… i have to say, i would really like to buy some coors light here in germany, but its impossible. No one sells it. When i was in the USA I loved to drink it!!!
