This is a 2000 KDX 220 I purchased about a month ago. Thanks in no small part to the information on this forum, and some others, I was able to do the work to make it better than it was! What I did:
- Trail Tech kickstand. The previous owner made his own kickstand for it, out of steel!
- FMF rev pipe. The stock pipe was cratered like the moon.
- Jetting: Despite 99% of what I read in these forums, I had to go leaner in every range. I'm guessing this might be because I'm using
ethanol-free gasoline. It runs wonderfully now using Maxxima K2 at 42:1, with the snorkel removed.
- The original headlight shell was broken. It now sports a new OEM shell.
- 12-tooth countershaft sprocket. This turned out to be too low. I will change this back and add two teeth to the rear. Did I mention I weigh 200 pounds?
- Fluids. Bars. Cycra handguards. Grips.
And I'm not done. Other major work, such as a piston and perhaps sending the cylinder and carb off to Jeff Fredette, will have to wait for the winter. In the meanwhile, I'll probably put a GPS on it, and am investigating dualsport conversion. Anybody know which hydraulic brakelight switches to use?
