New to the site from central NY

Post by RPM »

New to the site and to the kdx world. Purchased a 1995 kdx200
With what I was told to be a 2007 kx 250 triple tree and forks. They seized up first ride unfortunately.

Welcome to the forums and congrats on the bike. The forks seized up or the bike? Try opening the fork cap bleed screws and see if a bunch of air rushes out. Post a couple pics of the forks/triple and we can help diagnose what's going on.

:prayer: The forks seized up. I took them to a local company to be rebuilt. I have a feeling the rake was not set right.i was riding a chopper. there was very little compression but when I took them off each felt very soft and could hear the springs. I did attempt to bleed the air with no help in the problem. Hopefully they are truly from what i was told. I tried researching the model numbers with no success

The forks may have been longer, giving it that chopper feel.

If you have more pics of the forks, I may be of help. I have a set of 2007 KX250 forks buried in a shed, unable to access them, but I am familiar with the looks. I have a 2005 KX250. Those forks are very similar. 2007 did not come with fork guard guides.

When I get them back from the shop I can get closer pictures. When I measure the factory kdx forks that were spares the corrosion shows where they were originally mounted and the distance to the axle. That moves the kx forks up about 5/8” so when they get finished up I’m hoping moving them up that 5/8” will set the rake correctly.

Looks like 2007 forks to me.

Cool pipe guard.

Pull the forks up in the clamps a bit to try again on getting rid of the chopper feel. A few have had their forks lowered internally, but most just pull 'em up.

Thanks kdx garage. It was not a cheap bike by any means. It came with a motorcycle title as well. All and all I think it was a good purchase. It seems to be in pretty good shape

It looks like you got a few nice aftermarket pieces (I see the pipe guard, Devol rad guards, bark busters, a WER steering stabilizer, I have the same one and love it, seat has been recovered, rear shcock looks like it may have been worked on at some point, looks like maybe a Clarke oversize tank. Just looks like it didn't receive a lot of routine preventative maintenance.

In the pics above the forks are definitely sitting too low in the triple clamps, which is why it felt chopper-ish.

I found some bushing missing from the front caliper. Just ordered them. And the crankcase breather wasn’t there. I think your right about maintenance. Bearings and bushings seemed good though. Chain is getting a little loose and topped out. I’m gonna change oil coolant and keep looking for missing parts or anything out of the blue. I only got to ride It the one time before sending out forks. I believe I would like to change up sprockets when I get a new chain. I don’t need speed at all.
