Hi Folks

Firstly it's great to find a KDX Community like this :boogie:

I am currently trying to restore my 1980 KDX 175 A-1

Which i have owned from new, but for various reasons, has spent the last 37 years in garden sheds or garages in bits !!

The engine went missing after my garage was burgled ( I had seized it up, and had removed it from the frame to take it to my local Kawasaki

dealer to have it fixed) they nicked that but nothing else !!

My Dad (who was a big part of my motorcycling experience from an early age, I raced KX 125'S & 250'S as a kid) passed away in February,

So my 19 year old son & I are kind of doing it for him !!!

I have most of the bits for it, some are in better condition than others

Finding parts over here is pretty hard though, as they did't sell may in the UK

Managed to get a motor on e bay, but for some reason the gear selector shaft had been sawn off, and I can't fInd a replacement here !

I am also missing the inlet manifold, and the rear shock is goosed, Apparently this can't be fixed as it's a sealed unit

Could anyone please tell me if this is true?

Cheers

Dave

Welcome to kdxrider.net. Congratulations on your KDX as well as your nice story. At 37 years of waiting, you have got me beat on long-term projects. I am glad to hand my crown over to you.

The gear shift shaft seems to fit a few years:

The shock, sadly, IS INDEED a sealed non-serviceable shock. Perhaps you can find a company that makes shocks to get a replacement, or just find a used one that is not worn out completely.

Good luck on the build. :bravo:

Some engineer in 1979 thought, “these babies will never wear out” when he was designing that shock.
