Hello. I’m brand new here. I have ridden bikes since I was about 5. I am 35 now. Haven’t ridden in six or seven years. 5’9” 210 lbs. I like woods riding mostly single track.

Looking at a 96 KDX 200 later this week. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Something I do is look at the oil color through the sight window on the right side of the engine. Creamy color means water pump seal leaking.
The bike I bought had cream colored oil. $50.00 fix.

Welcome
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Read this post HERE. It is a good intro to the work you need to do to a new bike, and would be a good starting point for things to look at. The quick list is overall condition, fork and shock seals, wheel/suspension bearings, air filter condition, rims/frame, etc. You always want to see the bike started cold, not warmed up when you show up.
