Quick Report (since I took the RMZ to help combat my lack of skills in deep sand)
NORCS Round 1, Horn Rapids - Richland, WA
Masters - placed 7th (of 9).
Notes:
1. This was my first ride of year (since I tried to cut off the end of a finger in Jan)
2. Took it pretty easy and had a miracle - no crashes. So probably finished better than if I went crazy and put it down a few times.
3. Great surprise: Masters is free! Lady handed me back my entry fee and signed me up.
4. KDX for Round 2.

No crashes? Good job! I don't think I've ever made it through a race without at least one!

Glad you kept it up and going. Congratulations on getting back out there!

That is not a bad result!

April 24, 2022
NORCS, Round 2 - Motowest, Bremerton WA
Results (Masters): 10 (out of 10)
Notes:
I had great day on fun track. I finished #10. (Out of 10)
Stupid old guys are faster than Good old C-class. But it's still free.
Didn't really have any crashes, but did tip over in mud 3x....by getting off my line. So missed the cutoff time for 4th lap.
Great stuff!! Way tired.
Spent most of my race trading places with a KDX E-series and “Holden” on his YZ85.

The group who manage and setup the race series I am riding are called Team Tortoise Racing. And my better-1/2 did not know this.
My wife went w/ for 1st time, this weekend & walked over with me to sign-ups. When she saw the sign up form thought it was my class: "Are you in the Team Tortoise?"
How apra-po.
She did catch me catching my breath at a couple transitions.

Is your shock preload and rate correct? Looks a little low.

Have fun!

Man! You always have good 👁.
Spring and sag are set up for 185. I am now just a ‘little’ over that and have not re-adjusted. Keep thinking I’m gonna shake it.
But agree, I should at least crank it down a bit, until I do.

Would be great fun to see what another (90% rider) KDX can do.
Masters = 60+

Oof 3 races behind. This will never live up to the Doakley standard of race reporting.

NORCS 3
5/22/22-Eddieville “Grand Prix” dirt course. 7th place masters.
Took my 4T. So posted this under ‘other bikes’. What a blast going as fast as you got the stones. Like an 8-mi MX track without the really scary stuff (+ about 5 min per lap of not-hard enduro).

NORCS 4
6/26/22-Washougal. 7th place It was the holy grail the woods were tough but we also ran the MX whoops and horsepower hill!
Like a kids dream. Awesome!

NORCS 5
7/17/22-Hannegan. 8th place. Tight and dusty, except where it was slick as snot. Brought my buddy on his 95 RMX and he beat me by 1 place. But we need a rematch.

Sitting on 4th place overall in Masters, with 1 race left. Pretty sweet unless you know only 4 of us have made all the races.
Not enough practice time to get any better this year. 7 good rides. 5 were races.

I really really really want to make Washougal next year or one year at least. Dang it sounds like fun! Congrats on the consistent effort this season! I’m in a similar points deal here, can’t miss any more, but I’ve missed fewer than most other guys!

Race was at Riverdale Raceway, Toutle, WA.
Lap 1: dead engine start. 2nd in hole shot & killed it diving/lockup into 1st corner, buddy on RMX went past me + 2 tip-overs / tangle ups in corners. Woods were so dusty you could not see trail. Just watch a helmet in front and pray.
Lap 2: clean / best time. Got about 1/2 lap where I could see since we were spaced out. Passed many people on the rocky & sandy riverbed section.
Lap 3: started gaining some time on the other old guys. Got cocky and pinned it in the riverbed section, thinking I could keep the front end up. I did not. Face planted into the rocks. And when I got up realized that my kick lever was missing. Tried to bump start in sand & rocks. Could not do it alone. Some kind soul was helping another whose leg was stuck under his bike asked if I needed a hand. Lucky KDX takes not much to fire and we got her restarted so I could finish.
Lap 4: did not make cutoff time, since lost about 10min getting restated on lap 3.
I’d probably still be stalled in riverbed if my new friend hadn’t helped me out. There was nice hill climb to get out of there.
