KDX in NW Off-Road Championship Series

Post by Goat »

1. My 2nd Career Race (3/21/21)
2. Class: Senior C
3. Course: Desert Scrubland / Sand
4. Location: Horn Rapids ORV - Richland, WA
5. Results: TBA (I didn’t wait for postings and thought online results would be faster)

Comments:
Pro: Best start anyone could ever ask for in 1st race with big dead engine line start. KDX fired first kick perfect and screamed fwd with near perfect 2nd gear launch. Probably top 5 at first corner.
Con: Came into 1st corner so hot, that I had to lock it up so I wouldn’t crash. So was right back to mid of the pack by 2nd turn.

Pro: Sat had open MX practice on the Big Boy full size MX track. So I could get some feel for what the MX section would be like.
Con: There was no MX section. They just used the last corner jump to slow everyone down for the checkpoint.

Pro: KDX can easily pass brand new KTMs and Huskies when you find the right rhythm.
Con: Honda Trail 50s can easily pass KDX, when it’s laying on it side in a deep sandy corner and you’re too gassed to pick it up fast.

Pro: I am now waaayyy better at open country crap and little to mid size whoops. I still just roll the bigger ones.
Con: Mis-timing a big whoop out of blind corner, still means the whoop wins.

Since I don’t have go pro. One of my young team-kawi friends agrees to show part of the course.

Congratulations on the trophy! It was well earned. Thank you for analysis with a touch of humor.

I think it is funny to cut down all the trees except the sycamore trees. :-)

Thanks for the report. I hate sand like that. Would rather race in mud!

Oh, they didn't cut the rest down, that is Eastern Washington, desert much like the SW but without all the cacti. Someone planted those on purpose lol.

Result posted:
I was 21/24 in Senior C, 133/143 in all of Short Course 2.
On the up-side, this would have been 7/11 in Masters.
So if I survive to next year, maybe I can claw up to mid-pack.

Good job on what looked like a tough course with all of that sand! The Olympia beer sure brings back some memories from my Oregon days. ;-) I thought that when I graduated from the "senior" to the "super senior" class that I could beat the "older" farts, but they ended up being just as good, if not faster, than the seniors. :yawinkle: BTW - I always love your sense of humor!

I did check my times to see what would be best fit for me next time. I’m afraid I am in the class where I belong.
I would have been 16/16 in super senior B.
They didn’t offer super senior C.
I like to crack an Oly with all my riding buddies:

2021 NORCS - Round 2
1. Career Race No: 3 (4/25/21)
2. Class: Senior C
3. Course: 60% woods / 30% MX / 10% dirt road
4. Location: Riverdale Raceway, Toutle, WA
5. Results: TBA

Pro: KDX-friendly course: fast woods / single track / dirt roads / practice level MX track /a little mud / some roots.
Con: None really. If I was to design my own person trading course this would be it. Maybe add a little hill climb some place.

Pro: I made the cut-off time to get 4th lap.
Con: I was exhausted and didn’t really need a 4th lap.

Pro: I passed people in the woods.
Con: I got passed on the track and straights.

I think I was still tired from last months sand course and was 50/50 to just head to the woods ORV park and skip the races. Glad I went racing! It was a blast. Bike did great (new tires always feel good). And got a real boost for how much fun you can have trying to go fast. The tight and open were broken up nicely and very few jam ups in the trails.
Also very fun to have no fear of passing 4 guys though the woods by going 1 tree over thru the pucker brush.

Once again, I have to rely on youngster to give a tour of the fantastic woods section. The announcer said there were 577 racers total.
