identifying a kdx220 engine

Post by prityboy69 »

I bought a kdx220 motor the other day and the numbers are beat off of it. Other than that the motor is perfect. The problem is that I know nothing about it if I would ever need to buy parts. It has E-2 & 1409 on the head kips on the side cover and 1744 on the head by the reed valves. Is there any way to date this motor w\o the bottom numbers? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

No eBay but they didn't have a year listed. I figured I could check the numbers once I got it here but when I did everything was beat off it except I can make out a X and maybe a B.

I can narrow it down to between 97 and 2007
(or a few years older if its a Japanese market engine)

either way there were no changes to the 220 throughout the run so any part you find will fit

identifying a kdx220 engine

That's good to know. I was just looking to build it up so it makes a little better power and I saw where people were talking about a 220a and a 220h and I didn't know if there was a difference in the engine of the parts that go on it. Anyhow thanks for all your help it is very much appreciated

I bought a KDX 220 a little while ago, it is still in parts, but it is getting closer to being finished. I just found out today on how to date the bike, and that is on the rims. mine is 494, which means it is a 94 model.
I was told when I bought it, it was a 2001, then I thought it was a 97, as it has a purple frame.
Anyway, the motor has a small mechanism above the engine breather, which doesn't seem to be on any other photo of 220 or 200 motors.
It has a cable that is attached to the throttle cable, and after what diymirage has revealed, perhaps this motor is from one of the road going, Japanese bikes. All the other parts, I got from Partshark, their really good. I had the barrel re-nikasiled and a new Wiseco piston from Powerseal USA. customerservice@powersealusa.com
It was $200 cheaper to send it to the States to have it done, including postage, than to have it done in Australia.
Seems that most parts are easy to come by.
Cheers.

Thanks for all the info y'all I just mounted the motor in a 4wheeler from I had laying around and the thing is a beast. Its actually a lot quicker than I had planned. It now needs widened and some good shocks so it can handle the power.
