I ended up getting a good deal on a 1998 KLX300. After spending way to much $$$$$$ and hours into this bike. I now have a city bike that's easy to start and gets me around town. It's a great addition to my KDX and the e-start fixed that amount of time it took me to start this bike and saved my leg. This bike has all of the FSW upgrades and a lot more.

Now I feel bad for keeping my KLX300 in the back of the garage lol

Been really considering an older KLX300 for more dual sport orientated rides. How did you add e-start?

You generally find a donor KLX250 motor. The 250 and the 300 have basically the same bottom end with different cylinders. I've been keeping an eye out as it would make the old 300 nicer to ride for my wife...kicking it is sometimes akin to Sysiphus' trial

I added the FSW e-start for the KLX300. The method he's talking about above is probably the cheaper getting a 250 engine. The e-start kit for the KLX300 is about $2k it is all OEM parts. The kit is from a 2006 KLX250S.

There a few 300's near me that come up pretty cheap. I did the FSW E-start kit but you're probably right that the 250 engine would be the cheaper route. Kicking this bike was ridiculous and was thinking of selling it. The magic button made it such a great ride. lol

Yeah, reclocked the auto compression release and that helped some, as did a hot start kit. God help you if you dumped it over when it was nice and warm and didn't immediately pick it up! A pumper carb also helped a lot, but it's still a bitch to kick. But it is just a tractor when its running...goes anywhere.

Beautiful bike! How does it cruise, speed wise?

Very nice! What tail light is that? Looks pretty sweet. How do you like the steering stabilizer on the street? I was thinking about getting one on my sumo too
