I’m gonna split the cases and see what’s in there. Not sure if that junk was just from the one hour test ride I did, not noticing that boot being loose, or if this has been over time. If it was sucking in regular air, wouldn’t one expect more scoring in the cylinder? That chip is really the only thing. As far as the head goes, I could send with the cylinder or get another. I’m just gonna continue the tear down and see if these main bearings are crunchy or not.

Went ahead and did a conservative tally on a part out just in case

Things usually don’t pass through my hands to die, but at least I know I’m not in a hole (yet)

I’m also keeping a lookout for a parts bike in my area

Look on eBay for a used head.

Any chips or flakes on a cylinder wall equals replating.

Broke it down some more. Looks like an aftermarket basket. From the photo it looks like I might need plates. I do have a good pack sitting at the house. Right side bearing felt concrete from this side. Feeling optimistic, but I’m not forking over any cash until I know what I have. I was optimistic enough to buy some yamabond.

I would suggest some soap and water before working on a bike.

Any interest to post a VIN and engine number?

I know off the top of my head the model code is 5DH and the motor serial started with e101c or something. I remember checking the motor to make sure it was the same year as the bike

Cool. It is good to check all that.

I have seen a few people start buying parts, then later it turned out it was a different year than what they were told or thought.

I posted a link. It came up as some small version of the actual ad, like a picture. I don't know how it did that.

I ended up finishing this project last month. I just put a better rim on the back.
