Learned a new lesson today, and re-learned one as well

Lesson previously known, but obviously not heeded: Never let ethanol fuel sit for extended periods in a carb.

Lesson learned: Pilot jet in a honda z50 is not removable. The hole is also so tiny that anything small enough to pass through it (a human hair, perhaps?) would never be stiff enough to push through. The pressed in pilot jet is a bit over 1". After fighting with it for entirely to long, I finally resorted to a 1/16th drill bit. Bored the first 1/4" out until the corrosion was gone and I could see the hole. As I'd hoped, it seems the fuel passage through the pilot is the same diameter all the way through. Lucky! I put it all back together, and boom! The z50 lives on.

Sheesh!

Yea, that's the first thing I tried. For any normal size jet they are perfect. Even the smallest of the guitar strings would not pass through the pilot on this thing. Thought I was going to end up buying a new carby.

Dip didn't work. There is no rubber jet block gasket or anything, so I wasn't afraid to dunk it. The carb body is all one piece. An ultrasonic cleaner I do not possess.

The boy's been rocking it all over the back yard this morning, so life is good!

I had some 16ga. It was indeed small enough, but there was no getting it through the year old ethanol crystallization. It would just wad up. Believe me, I messed with this thing for days. Nothing small enough to pass through the hole was stiff enough to push through the hardened gunk. No amount of spraying or soaking phased it either.
