traded the KDX for a Brute Z-2 50 CC quad

Post by diymirage »

so I had one of my 200s and the 220 for sale for a while and I ended up trading off the 200 for a little quad (and a pile of cash)

I have no idea who makes this thing, but it has a mikuni carb on it so at least they didn't cheap out on that
I didn't really want to get it but I have a nephew who is turning 6 next week and this thing is just his size

it hadn't run in several years so I cleaned the carb and slapped on a new fuel line and it fired right up

my 5 year old has spend the last few hours testdriving it around the house and it scares the crap out of me
its a little 2 stroke, oil injection single speed motor without any kind of differential on the rear
he'll do fine on the grass around the house but everytime he comes around the corner and hits the driveway you can hear those tires bark and see the ATV try to jump out from underneath him

the only problem im having with it is that sometimes when you let of the gas it does and then it takes a while to fire back up again
it while kick over and try to idle but as soon as you give it some gas it dies

(there is no choke on the carb)

I haven't had a chance to change the plug yet, anyone think that might be causing my issue?

Maybe plug, but more likey idle mixture. Either the pilot jet isn't spotless, or the air screw needs some tweaks.

Your kid has it good. My first orv was a Yamaha Tri-Zinger, right after they made 3 wheelers illegal for kids under 16. I think my dad was trying to get rid of me. Never had an issue tipping it, and could 2 wheel it forever when I was 9 or so.

that boy scares the living daylights out of me...but I made it to adulthood somehow (with only a handful of broken bones to show for it) so I guess it must be in his blood

the idle screw is sitting at 2 turns out, same spot it was before I started cleaning the carb
after replacing the fuel line and filter im not sure how skilled the PO was though, considering the fuel filter was installed backwards

yeah, ill be the first to admit that is not proper dirt riding attire

and I DID have to have a talk with him to let him know you can not hit a 1/4 mile stretch and then take a 90 degree turn
we all have to learn somehow though
