89 ATK 406

Post by Roadhazardguy »

I picked this up for $650 just like you see it. The jetting was so far off It wouldn't hardly run when I got it but I was able to swap out the carb with another one I had. I got it to run half way ok like that but a little lean so I haven't ran it much that way. I decided that the old carb wasn't worth messing with so I found A 39mm Keihin PWK to replace it with and I'll buy jets for that one instead when it gets here.

I had been thinking about getting my KDX street tiled once I get it done but I think Id rather keep it where it does best and convert this one instead. For now I'll keep it the way it is and just upgrade a few things here and there but I think this thing would be fun converted over to sumo.

Any of you guys ever had one of these?

Check over at http://www.atkmotorsports.com/atkbb/vie ... d36f530917 . Lots of info there. Kieth at American Dirt Bike is a good source for parts.

Thanks guys, you can't tell from the pictures but it does need a little work.

I'm already A member over there, lots of good info but not many people frequent the site. Keith over at ADB has already been a huge help, I've exchanged several emails with him and has always had an answer.

I've got a 90 ATK 250 w/title it's a beast, not as much torque as the kdx but faster on top. I got several can-ams too I like the rotax motors.

It should be a lot like a kdx, short wheelbase, lots or torque, very reliable, and almost maintence free. canamfan do you have a 400 with the same engine, or a 370?

I have an 83 ASE 250, 74 125 tnt a couple of mx5 250's that need restored and a 80 175 qualifier that needs a little to get going again. Also a mx3 250 and mx2 175 that need restored plus lots of parts but no 370 or 400 engines. i always wanted to ride a 406 Atk i've heard they have great power.

Great pick up. Always liked the look of the ATK. Does it have the countershaft disc brake?

Yeah for now, I don't really like the whole idea. I'm gonna get a disc off a KTM and a longer brake line then move it to the rear wheel.

Right now I'm sure it can! My Carb should be here today and I'll check if the shop down the road has jets then we'll see what it will really do.

Sweet bike! That would be perfect for vintage racing up here (cut off for later models is 89). When I was younger I wanted that bike sooo bad.
