not schooled on WRs at all but it seems like a good deal
maybe buy, play with for a season and sell for what you got into it or even a small profit?

They are great machines. I rode one back to back against my KDX250. The WR had more top end otherwise the engines were very similar. The chassis was the big difference. While the WR was heavy like the KDX250 it handled better and felt more nimble. Hope that helps. I know for $650 I would not hesitate to pull the trigger on it!

I just clicked the link and it still took me to the ad :? two people are fighting over it and the guy raised the price to $750. Its very clean looking and is a great deal at 750, but I dont think I could get much profit out of it, I doubt anyone would buy it for more than 1100 over here. Still debating on getting it, would pick up tomorrow if it doesn't sell tonight.

I guess I cant get over the RM 250 I recently sold. I picked it up for $460 and sold it for $1800 :mrgreen: that or the fact that I have a YZ250 that is kind of, but not really, similar. I guess if I did buy it, Id have nothing to lose

yeah someone already got it, and now they have it posted back up on craigslist again for $1500 this time. I wouldnt give up my KDX as trail bike for the WR, thats for sure

I bought a brand new (unused) 97 WR250 (last USA model as I recall) a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. It was a very fast 250....the KDX's (200/220) work better in tighter stuff though, and are a more fun trail bike for woods work. Strangely, yamaha had a smaller front rotor and the braking was not as good as a KDX as a result - and the forks of that era would not accept the oversize rotors for the newer yamahas. I sold it last year for 2200 - it was still in perfect condition.

I rode a 92 WR 250 a while back, and it was not nearly as mild mannered as my KDX. I am much taller than the owner and he had the seat cut down and low bars, and the gearing was too fast for me. I used to have a 91 YZ 250, which i loved but beat me up on long rides.

The 93-97 was a big improvement, but it's still more of a MX conversion than a roots-bred enduro....despite having a WR trans. If it wasn't for that it's a YZ with a lighting coil, FWW, and big tank.

It was touted as a hare-scrambles bike...which it did very well. I don't think it even had a heavier flywheel, I bought a Stealhy flywheel weight to tame the wheelspin on the one I owned. It didn't give up any HP to newer bikes, and one of the reasons I sold it was the fact that I tended to hang it out too much when dicing with other riders... I'm just too old to crash hard anymore. :sad:

Oh yeah, gobs of power, and still plenty of tractor-like torque. Gotta watch the whiskey throttle. Barring traction, it will completely obliterate a modded KDX in a drag race, and I've yet to find the end of high gear with stock sprockets....it's reported to peak in the low 90's MPH. I know desert riders liked them a lot too.

I know you are referring to the 200/220 KDX's, right? If so, I completely agree. The power is not even comparable between them. :cool: FYI, the KDX250 can run those speeds as well. I had mine up to 84.9 mph with 13/50 gearing. It was verified with a GPS and still had more throttle left. :mrgreen:

I raced 97 WR in enduros. It was one of the best bikes I ever owned! I had the suspension revalved, got rid of the bulbous stock tank and had a carbon fiber 3 gallon tank made for it. Also was able to use a 93-95 YZ250 seat. That mod alone transformed the bike into a tight woods carver! I think that it would run with any of the newer 250s easily. As far as it being heavy, it weighed no more than my 96 CR250 and didnt feel overly heavy to me. It would eat up rock gardens and whooped out trail after the revalve. Stone reliable too! Its pretty much at the top of my list of bikes that I have owned or still own.

I bought a '93 model last year that was in hibernation with low hours on it. Was all stock except for a spark arrestor added on. Suspension was crap, and so was the original carb. Installed a Keihin PWK, flywheel weight and totally modified the suspension and it's a blast to ride. Granted, it's no KTM killer but still plenty fun to ride

Indeed. One of the greatest things about this bike when I bought it was the absolute gold mine of parts on ebay for it. Mostly NOS even....As the YZ is the same, and not competitive in MX any more. I scored a YZ tank and seat, and later an IMS YZ tank. Full pro-action woods/220lb valved susp, $150. Applied top clamp, $20. NOS Answer S/A $20. Tons of armor, etc, etc, etc.
