87’ KDX drain plug missing??
Hello, I’ve been a regular poster here as I bought this kdx200 from upstate New York that’s been really abused and put and together poorly. Anyways I just want to make sure before I try and tap and drill this hole that this is the right spot for the drain plug and that it’s been stripped.

That's it. What happened? Did someone break the bolt off in it??

If that is the bolt broken off inside there you may be able to get it out without a tapping the threads. Mine had an aftermarket bolt in it from the previous owner that snapped off with hardly any effort. I used a drill bit and went in about 1/4” and then I pressed a small standard screwdriver in the hole and twisted it out. I got lucky that the screwdriver snagged in the hole but I’ve seen a Phillips head screwdriver used also with light taps from a hammer in the drilled hole work also. They also make those stripped bolt extractor kits where you drill a small hole and then left hand thread the bit in and when it tightens up it starts backing out the screw. Ace hardware has those.

If that is a broken bolt and you do not already have a set, right now would be a terrific time to purchase a LEFT handed drill bit set.
If it catches, it loosens what is left of the bolt.
If it is glued in place, then heat may soften up the adhesive.

Oh dude that is the perfect candidate for the weld nut technique. Works like a hot damn when the bolt is in aluminum like that.
