Parts

Post by 85' kid »

Hi, I have an 85 KDX200, and am considering fixing the engine on it. But before I put all that money into it, I wanna know what breaks easy and what is hard to find. I already know a lot of the engine parts are hard to find, but I am unsure on suspension, frame, electrical, EXT. I am quite new to these older bikes, so anything would help.

Sell it and get a 1995+ KDX. You could spend a small fortune and still end up with a KDX that is three previous versions older. (1995 - 2006) / (1989 - 1994) / (1986 - 1988), then the 1983 - 1985 "A" model 200's.

Even the newest bikes on here are like what came out in fall of 1994, so none is cutting edge today. :-}

If you are just wanting "any old KDX", then the air cooled ones are getting really tough to find the parts for them at reasonable prices.

yea, if parts weren't so hard to find and prices were not so high I would keep it, so I'm going to try to sell it. I really don't want to part it out cause its clean. How much do you think I can sell it for? The top end needs a rebuild, It needs a new magneto, crank seals are shot, gaskets need replacing, Transmission looks great though. New tires, suspension is actually decent, Electrical (as far as I can tell) works. Plastics are original, same as seat, and tool pouch.

It varies on area. Start high and let them talk you down. There may be someone in your area that could use a parts bike.

It does look pretty darn good in that pic.
