1984 OEM Carb settings

Post by kjdad »

I'm having trouble finding what 84 kdx200 were shipped with in regards to needle, main jet, pilot jet, and needle jet. My bike was brought back from the dead (aka dusty corner of an old timers garage). I had to mix a match a few parts including a carb. It has a 35 pilot, 280 main jet. I'm thinking it was pig rich at idle since I had to turn the idle screw almost full ramp. I took the bike out for some fun and it ran okay for half of the day and then just seem to load up in the afternoon. I admit, I was following my friends young son so he didn't get lost..so a bunch of puttering around in 2nd gear.

I want to go back to near stock as the motor is 100% stock on a fresh rebuild. Reeds look good. No air leaks as most of the gaskets are fresh. Running 32:1. What's a good stock setting for these carbs..a good starting point.
