Stock Silencer Packing

Post by kjdad »

Okay..I bet this as been asked a trillion times. I am using a muffler/silencer for a slightly newer KDX on my 84. The end cap/pipe has a bolt and removes and allows you to pull out the endcap/pipe. Do these silencers require packing? I know you drain them from time to time, but I don't see any packing from what I can see inside.

Oh and my rebuilt from the dead KDX RIPS! drum brakes are a bit sketch..but keeps you on your toes..ha

How slightly newer??

Got a pic?

1989 - 1994 KDX200 can be repacked.

1995+ can not.

Check out the parts diagrams.

DO NOT pay an arm and a leg for the OEM packing. Buy a bag of the better FMF packing for around $11 or so. It will last a LONG time for the 1989 - 1994 KDX200 or KDX250.

It's an 86. I cut the tabs off and rewelded to fit my 84..

What is the purpose of being able to remove the exhaust tip if you cant pack it?

NOT repackable. It is a baffle for sound reduction. Pointing the exhaust and sound down (besides the internal portion) helps out.
