Alternative for 84 KDX200 Rear Shock?

I'm bringing an 84 KDX200 back to life. The rear shock that came with the bike is not repairable (hole in hose) and it looks like most options on eBay are in about the same condition.

Are there alternatives to the stock shock that will fit (newer models or aftermarket)?

Thanks

Do you just need a hose? If so, go to a hydraulics shop. They can make one.

Beyond that, Race Tech can make you a shock, but it ain't cheap.

Was thinking the same thing after posting (hydraulics shop) - I'll give that a shot.

Thanks for the quick response.

If it was quick, I just happened to drop in.

A hydraulics shop made my nitrogen hose with connectors on my shock charging apparatus. It looks and works awesome.

So I removed the hydraulic hose, which I'll get remade, and attempted to position the "free" piston in the reservoir to the correct dimension per the manual - it needs to move about 4mm toward the nitrogen valve. Unfortunately the piston won't budge. Shouldn't it move freely with a little pressure through the hose hole?

If the piston is frozen is there a way to free it without trashing the reservoir?

Thanks for your help with this.

I am not sure on the piston. Look up some KTM videos, as they used them for many years.

1986 + KDX shocks have a bladder.

Do you know if the 86+ reservoir will work with the 84 shock (86+ reservoir may be easier to find)? It looks like the hose connecting the reservoir to the shock is the same for both the 84 and 86.

Thanks

It might work. I had wondered about that in the past.

The hoses have different part numbers.

I think the hoses are different because of the banjo fitting on the reservoir side of the 86+ hose. It may work if I use the 86+ hose along with the 86+ reservoir. I'll look into it and let you know...

Thanks
