Carb Alternatives for 86 KDX200

Hi All -

Apologies for not finding this thread, which I'm sure is on this forum somewhere (just shoot me a link if that's easiest)

I finished reviving the 86 KDX200 and it started on the 3rd kick and runs well.

However, I'd like to adjust the carb easier than is possible with the stock 86 carb (e.g., no pilot screw on my carb).

What are the alternatives? Are there any that are direct replacements without replacing the airbox and/or air boot?

Thanks for your help.

1988 KDX200 carb to engine boot
1988 KDX200 airbox to carb boot
1988 KDX200 OEM carb (or buy a Keihin right side adjustable aftermarket carb with the proper slide, jets and needle)
probably need a 1988 KDX200 throttle cable, too
not sure on throttle tube fitting the cable end

I think the "air screw" affects all throttle ranges, from the very bottom to the very top. (not a pilot screw, as such)

I have the "88 carb on my "86. You will need the boots. The "88 slides that I have are worn out. I have a new chrome plated slide that works well.

Thanks for the comments. Do you know the make and model of the 88 KDX200 carb? For example, I can locate a "right side" Mikuni VM34 that has the choke and a pilot screw on the right side, but I'm not sure if that's the same model as the '88 KDX carb, and if different I imagine the '88 boots won't work.

Keihin PWK35, but it has to have the choke, air screw and idle screw on the right side, as "normal" is left side adjustments.

Mikuni VM34SS (with parts on the right side or a lever to get over to the left, like OEM) is the stock 1986 - 1987 KDX200 carburetor.

Check sudco or jetsrus.

I just got my Lectron for my '87 build. It was crazy expensive and I hope it is worth it... I will keep y'all posted on how she runs when she's back together.

Who did you deal with at Lectron? When I called them about doing a carb for that bike, they said just order it from the website. I was a little skeptical.

Hey Husky250 -

How did the Lectron install go on your 87 KDX200 build? Any fitment issues and how is performance?

Anyone else with a Lectron on an 86/87 200? If what do you think?

Also interested to hear how the Lectron performs :)

I'm sorry about not responding earlier. The build has stalled due to the shock being out in a shop that is, apparantly, nonessential. I don't have any idea who I dealt with at Lectron bit I, too, was told to order it from the website. Two weeks later it arrived. I'll let you know how she performs once the parts return (coronavirus delayed).
