1986 stator conversion

Post by scott mcgourley »

I picked up a 1986 kdx 200. It had the stator removed. As it turnes out, the stator they gave me is off a 89 or above kdx 200. The holes just dont line up and no easy way to mod it and it does not show continuity. Plus timing would probably be a bitch. Used ones on ebay are $200 plus. The newer ones are cheap and NEW. Does anyone know if I can convert to a new stator or am I buying and overpriced beat up one??????? Probably just buy another running bike if that is the case for $500 vs $200 for just the stator.

I have yet to finish it but I started converting a Kawasaki G4 stator to work on my 88. I don't know it you want to go that route but it does give you another option. http://kdxrider.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=77&t=12733

Ok, I got the newer model stator to work with the C model. Just flip it around so the wire is pointed up and mount it right in the center of the bolt hole for perfect timing. I am going to drill out the top where the wire is to affix a second bolt, but it runs great.
