it works, i've used it before. there was a few spots I had to scrub but it did a fine job. + it smells prutty good!

I've used Pine-Sol on a couple of sets of not to bad carbs and it's worked good.Those 1000 VM's where just beyond what I thought Pine-Sol could though so I went with something with more oomph.As a normal part of dipping any carb I take the time to break them down as far as I possibly can.

Hit the hubs with the wire wheel on the grinder prior to doing the walnut shell blasting.

Wasn't impressed with the results do I took them in and wire brushed them by hand with Simple Green.I don't think I have enough compressor or a good enough blaster to use this effectively.A blasting cabinet would help to,maybe

Got the shock apart to,finally.Sanding the body for burrs and other junk in the body was the ticket.

Asked in Q&A but will ask here to.Do you undo this nut to get the head seal off or the nut on the top?
Edit:I got the 2 missing spokes to.Went though most of the local dealers used spoke bin,some where kind of close but no luck.In his new spoke stash I found the right spokes in the second bag I tried.The first bag was close to,one size to big.

Wrap the piston well in electrical tape. Shove grease down into the end of the shaft. Using a grinding wheel, slowly grind the end of the shaft off. The end of the shaft is peened over the nut. You can break some of the threads on the shaft, if you don't grind / file it off.

You can flat file it, but it will take a LONG time.

Buy a new nut with the little pieces inside to keep it from loosening, AND use red loctite. 25 foot-pounds of torque.

and yes, clean up the threads after the nut is off.

Was going to lace up the wheels this morning.Then I looked at the bare hubs and said to myself "better to get the bearings on now while its easier".So I did that.Lost the rear hubs circlip

But the front hub's done.Got the front laced up to the 2 threads showing stage.Don't know how much work will be done next weekend a life's thrown us a couple of big distractions

OK I was being a bit cryptic,we are OK .My aunt died Wednesday,it was not unexpected as she was in hospital for 8 weeks.She had this http://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=& ... 7494,d.aWM and the end was pretty bad.Going to the funeral Friday over in the Vancouver area.Then on Friday my wife's aunt's husband died of a massive heart attack,completely out of the blue.So things are a bit on the down side here but we'll get though it.

Yeah it's not what I'd really want to be doing this weekend.My cousin asked me to be a pall bearer to,said yes so no backing out either.At least Friday is my normal day off .Find the wrenching therapeutic so will do something after we get home,really got to spend some time in the GS1000 to.

Got the rear laced up to the 2 threads showing stage as well.These straight pull spokes make lacing pretty easy.
Got the shock seal yesterday,not sure how much I'm looking forward to that the way it's fighting me every step of the way.

I tighted the rear spokes instead of moping around last night.Got it pretty close to.Might try tweaking it a bit more but I'm pretty happy with my first lacing job.
