87 mikuni rejet
So I've recently performed some fuel system mods on the 87. DG pipe, new badly needed intake boot, new boyesen pro series dual stage reeds, and bumped the pilot jet from a 25 to a 32.5. As a mechanic of 30 years who owns jet drills, I... Clearanced the 320 main jet a whisker (blue point jet drill set). However as a precautionary measure I ordered 330, 340 and 350 main jets. In the event my "clearancing" wasn't working out, I'd have the other jets to fall back on. Funny enough, just after the jet clearancing, I opened the destructions for the new reeds informing me that it's going to run a bit ritcher
After discovering this, I relocated the needle clip one slot higher (leaner) hoping to compensate for my ways.
Today was the acid test. Went out in the rain and twisted on her in the woods. I noticed a few things that were new.
First - I noticed that after riding on a trail or two and coming to a stop, she seemed to idle down and die as though it loaded up, which I'm thinking is the pilot as I bumped it up seven and a half sizes.
Second - I noticed a new lean spot going from mid throttle to full onion. I may need to bring the needle up back to where it was, put in a 330 main and bring the pilot jet back down to planet earth.
Anyone have a similar experience or any advice? Thanks in advance!

Why did you jump so high on the pilot? :-) I think I would have waited on drilling out the main. Temps are going down.

After coffee time is over, I'm going to get it unloaded from the truck and look at the plug, pull the carb and scale the jets down a tickle.

It's improved. I need to bring the slide needle height up a notch or two, mid range could be better.
It did something on the test ride that was new to me, riding along if I pull in the clutch and rev it up (not under load), it revs to a certain point then just falls off and won't go further up in rpms. May be related to the needle height.

Going from 25 to 32.5 is three jets sizes.
How does it run at full throttle?

Re: 87 mikuni rejet
Under load it's ok. To me it seems like keeping it on the pipe while pulling a slight grade at high speed (like on a forest service road) is a bit of a challenge and requires a few downshifts. Feels slow but I need to keep in mind im about 210 lbs and it's a 200 cc engine. It just seems like it can be better. I noticed it cut out when I cracked it open to a high rev (clutch in, no load)

Re: 87 mikuni rejet
Would it be advisable to step the pilot jet and main jet up the same amount, like if I went 2 steps higher on one, go 2 steps higher on the other as well or is it all circumstantial?

Re: 87 mikuni rejet
Get the pilot jet sorted first, then the needle, then the main. You'll never get the main right with the wrong pilot and needle.
At full throttle, the pilot, needle and main are all working together.

Re: 87 mikuni rejet
Have you ever had an overly enriched condition to where you rev the motor and it cuts at high rev? I associate that with being lean but I've been wrong before
