Stators

Post by Cturbo »

I replaced the original stator assembly of my 1992 KDX with a stator from a 2005 model. I know the part # are different but they look exactly the same except for the timing marks. I am missing something ?

Well, does it work? If so, does it light everything up like it should?

It sparks. I need to replace a valve before I can start it. I tried to djust the timing like the old one by eye because the timing marks are diferent. I want to know if anyone had experience with this setup and what timing to use.

Back from the dead- what did you end up doing? And to anyone else- would a lighting coil from an H series work as well?

oopss... KX500, not KDX.. 87-89. Thanks. It was pretty big - had some concerns if it would fit under the flywheel - but it did and works great.

However, on edit with the part number - here is what I found:

http://www.powersportsplus.com/parts/de ... -1279.html

Indicating it was a KDX-200/220. I have an 89. Ebay said it was both - which we all know is perfect... :)
Bottom line, it was physically bigger than the one I had before. So KDX-200/220, possibly a KX500? More likely the KDX though.

I'd want to put a dial indicator through the plug hole to check your timing....Then re-mark.

I thought the three tic marks on the frame the coils bolt to set the timing - I have it still in the middle mark. The frame was identical to the existing one. That being said - I also changed to the 607 reeds at the same time - and my jetting is off - but so is top end power. Maybe worth a check...
