1990 KDX200F SR - Rear brake line guides / eyelet

Post by rickvs355 »

Hi there

I have not had any luck finding the OEM rear brake line plastic guides (clip on ones). What are you guys doing? Grinding off the lugs and drill and tap swing arm to take late model screw down ones??

cheers
Rick

Thanks - yes, i can take a pic when i get home, but the swing arm just has a coarsely treaded lug sticking up vertically (thread like a wood screw) and the plastic brake line guide just pushes down onto it to secure. No screws. Looking at the late models they all have screws.

Wow!

In the USA, our models have drilled and tapped holes, then countersunk screws in the plastic. The plastic has the angled portion where the screws go.

Ok, no worries. In AU ours are different for some reason (see attached). I will have to drill and tap I would say.

That is the same guide/clamp as the E series, could you use a insulated(or nylon plastic) hose clamp and a plastic/nylon nut that will fit the stud, maybe have to double nut??

Next size up from the hose so it sits loose inside the clamp,.. eg. 1/2" hose, 5/8" id clamp..these clamps will sort of hold on by itself as the mounting hole will try to spread apart on the stud..nylon nut should work.
Could use one of the H models too I think, drill a hole for the alignment pin and install nylon/plastic nut on the stud .

Another option might be to 3D print a OEM one, I know they do some for front ones on other bike Eg, DRZ400

Are you missing the shock flap off the air box ? I think also NLA. Use a plastic milk bottle or I have made many up out of old front tubes, cut to length so it sits below swing arm between shock/swing arm or can simply sit on top of the swing arm, slice the outer edge seam and trim evenly both side for desired width, punch holes for the mounting screws, sometimes they form fit better outside of tube facing tire, sometimes inside out,if it rides up punch holes in the flap around the shock clevis and zip tie, nice thing is this folds/works with the suspension.

Thanks guys
I ended up buying kx450f guides and will have to drill and tap holes for them. I wanted it to look stock and this was my only option in a bind.
Yeah, I have only had the bike for a couple of weeks but didn't notice the missing airbox plastic. Will have to sort something out there.

Nobody commented on the plastics. Must look pretty stock then.
It has KX500 plastic tank and radiator shouds (and obviously seat). Hoping to speak it through rego inspection with the plastic tank. The F is supposed to be steel.

I would think that the stud coming out is coarse thread on the one side and already machine screw where it goes into the swingarm. Hopefully it's just a matter of finding the right screws to work with the new guides that you bought.

Wait. Curious minds want to know! :-) See if you can get one to unthread before cutting them flush. :-)

Is that rear wheel a 19"?

Ok, will do. Nothing to lose by trying to unscrew them.
Yeah it is a 19 tubeless. I believe the SR comes out with a 19

No worries. Out of interest, do you know where the KIPs cover drain hose usually goes? I can't find any info on this and at the moment it has about an inch of rubber hose coming off it that is plugged with a bolt (but still has some oil leaking from it).
All of the KIPs covers that I find online don't have this drain pipe.
