Kick starter doesn't always catch

It's a 94 kdx 200. The kick start will catch about half the time. The problem is more annoying than anything. Anyone have any advice. If it's a big pain to fix I don't mind just kicking a few more times.

Search here as some have documented what you can do yourself to fix it. Otherwise you're left trying to hunt down new or used parts.

Welcome to kdxrider.net. There are a couple of gears that get worn over time, as well as a spring. It happens some times. There are a few threads on here about it. You can search and read those. They cover it fairly well.

Also, be sure you are using the correct viscosity oil in the transmission.

You're welcome.

If it is not in one of those threads, look up Slick Nick and his KDX220R rebuild. I think that is where he filed the gears to make the contacts sharper. Those two gears and spring just wear down over the years. I think it will happen to all of them given enough use.
