Version 1.1. I decided that the square shape on the bottom at the end of the bar might interfere with my knees. I cut the bottom to match the top.

Also, I moved the bale that holds the odometer cable and bent it in a different angle and was able to route it cleanly behind the fork leg. It’s probably how it was supposed to be. lol

I finally got time to finish the other handguard and I got the seat back from the upholstery guy. He used the sides of the cover that I ordered but didn’t fit. He inserted another piece of vinyl down the middle. Now I’m thinking I need a dark blue fender bag. I’m gonna pull the one on my 87 model and put an aftermarket bag on it.

I’m sure it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but it takes me back to when my heroes were **** Burleson and Scott Summers. I could find nothing online about these handguards but they used to use a setup very similar to these. Of course theirs were covered with stickers from their sponsors. My guess it that their mechanics cut them out and added them to their Bark Busters pretty much like I have done. Between the fender extension, fender brace, and the handguards it kind of has an appearance that it is set up for riding mud.

I still have a few things to do mechanically but cosmetically I have all the pieces. I’ll roll it outside and give it a good washing and take a few more pics when I get time but overall I’m really happy with how it has come together.

Now I’m looking for an H model for a future project. lol

On this page about halfway down is a photo of Summers running your handguards. At the bottom is a great shot of him and Ty Davis (of Zip Ty racing fame) battling it out. I remember them as well. Looks great and fits the vibe of the bike.

Thanks for the pic! I figured someone might remember them. They have quite a look. lol

I just haven’t warmed up to the look or feel of modern bikes. I’m a big fan of off road bikes from the mid eighties to mid nineties. I like the earlier bikes too but bikes from the mid eighties became “modern” so to speak. With the right guy sitting on them they can still be a threat at the track or trail. But above all; the seats aren’t 4” wide and hard as a rock. lol

This bike will soon be passing or holding it’s own with a lot of orange bikes. I do likey the KDX series of bikes.

I figured if nothing else the handguards would make a good conversation piece at the trails. The Elba too. lol
