'89 wheels

Post by Duper80 »

Hey, I'm in Canada and I've been searching sites (fortnine, rocky mountain, warp9 ect..ect..) trying to find front/rear spoke kits and possibly rims to lace to my factory hubs, my issue is one site only has rear spokes while another has a rim but spokes and rims are available for 89 KX so, would I be ok to order 89 KX125/250/500 spokes/rims? Since they share the same hub and dimensions (21x1.60)-(18x2.15) possibly need to drill out rims/hubs?🤔 ... TIA

Call a wheel builder like Dubya. They should be able to help you wit the exact rim and spoke requirements.

The '89-'94 KDX uses the same lacing pattern on the rims as the KX. I ordered my rims (not wheels) from Warp 9 Racing. They also had the front spokes that would work. I ordered the rear spokes through Buchanan Spoke as they were the only ones who offered spokes that fit the '89-'94 KDX hub. They have lots of options on spokes and the ones I bought fit the stock hub without having to ream/drill out the stock hub.

Thanks guys, it's so frustrating trying to source rims to lace up to my stock '89 hubs , I've spoken with Buchanan's, & dubya and they can hook me up with rims/spokes no problem, but my issue is I'm in canada, and with the 🇨🇦 🇺🇸 exchange rate it makes (usa)D.I.D rims cost more than excel's for a "KX" if purchased here in canada 🤦‍♂️ .. so, I think I'm gonna take SS109's route and just order "KX" rims and hit up Buchanan's for spokes 👍

If you order rims then definitely check out the Warp 9's. Excellent customer service and the wheels I built with their rims are still true and ding/damage free.

Here's a pic of the wheels I built using Warp 9 rims when they were new.
