Which Reeds?

Post by brademan76 »

I have a 93, and going through it, one of the white fiberglass reeds has a small chip out of one of the far corners. I imagine I should replace them even though the bike was running well. From what I know, its the stock reed block & cage... what are my options for replacing just the reeds? I can't seem to figure it out...

When I search here, I'm only finding conversations around swapping to an aftermarket Boysen or VForce setup, which I don't care to do unless that is truly the only option.

Thanks for the help!

OEM Kawasaki p/n 12022-1063, they are available online at about $22 a piece (you need 2). Aftermarket Boyeson Power reeds (my fav) and super stock fibers are available and cheaper than OEM. Both use the stock cage.

How many chips would you like for the engine to digest? :-) Just kidding.

The Boyesen number used to be 607. I would switch to Boyesen if those are stock. (just for a touch better performance). Durability will be good with them.

I am talking about just the reeds, not a whole cage with reeds like the Boyesen Rad Valve or Moto Tassinari VForce 3.

Thanks guys. I went to boyesen's site and ordered direct as I wasn't having much luck with them on pzilla/bbandit, etc. I did the super stock fibers which were 014 I believe.

Thanks again for the help!

Good job! Please report back on how the shipping timeline is please. I see more companies offering direct sales. Also, if you could report on the performance. I used to read that the nylon / fiberglass / whatever ones are better at low end and carbon fiber better at high end.

The shipping timeline seems pretty fast! I ordered the SUPER STOCK carbon REEDS straight from Boyesen yesterday morning and just got the shipping notification email today.
