Hi,
Can anyone tell me what the is from the following numbers stamped on the cases? These are bare cases. I need a replacement set to rebuild mt 1990 E2 and want to check out if these will be ok. Any help would be appreciated.
All the best

Re: Engine identity?
the 10th digit is the model year. For 1990 it should be an "L". The 90-94 E models and the 95 H all used the same cases. so any 10th digit of L, M, N, P, R, S should work, but a good visual inspection would be in order as well.

Wow! 173. That is 1989. I strongly suggest you check the parts diagrams to see if they have the exact same full part number as 1990. There are a few parts that, by part number alone, are different than 1990 - 1994.
bufftester: engine number, not VIN (only a frame number in UK anyway, no VIN)

Yeah, after rereading I realize that was the VIN decode data. EE000001 - EE006000 are 89 and 6001- 019000 are 90 from what I can tell.

I would assume 1990.
