96+ silencer on a 1991?
Hey, I'm new to the forum and had a quick question. Does anyone know if a stock 1998 kdx200 silencer will work with my 1991 kdx200? I'm riding with guys who all have very quiet 4 strokes and need the exhaust to be as quiet as possible. The silencer I'm about to buy is a new takeoff, so it would be clean and the packing would be fresh. I'm assuming it would offer better sound protection than a 21 year old one. While we're at it, is the pipe interchangeable too?
Thanks for all the help!

Not without cutting it. Your stock 91 unit is nicer. Repack it! The expansion chamber will definitely not fit.

Neither are directly swappable. A stock E pipe will be the quietest, and simply repack the stock silencer.

The stock E series ('89-'94) silencers are just as quiet as the H series ('95+) silencer plus they are able to be repacked. Have you cleaned and repacked your stock silencer recently?
Anyways, there is thread on this page where a member made one fit but it wasn't just a bolt on affair.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll just repack the original silencer. Eventually I'll get an aftermarket one, but I do need both depending on who I'm riding with. Can I swap out the stock pipe and silencer with an aftermarket without rejetting?

An aftermarket silencer will gain you nothing other than making your wallet lighter. Seriously, you will not gain any more power, only more noise. An aftermarket pipe, however, really wakes up the KDX. IIRC, you have to jet leaner but I don't think absolutely have to. I'm sure someone else can confirm or deny that.

It would be good to revisit the jetting after any change to get the best results, but not absolutely necessary.

clean out your stock header pipe. Did that on my bike when it still had it, made it more quiet

Are your friends complaining about it? Seems kinda nuts to complain about the noise during a Motorsport. I say run what you want. Repack if you need it not because somebody says your bike is too loud. Btw my 4t is louder than my 2t will be. I would t spend money to make someone else comfortable I less it was my wife.I'm Wicked Good wrote: I'm riding with guys who all have very quiet 4 strokes and need the exhaust to be as quiet as possible.

Yeesh I'm not saying run straight pipes. He's talking making it marginally quieter, it will not be that noticeable. If my buddy said to me he wasn't going to ride with me becasue my 2t is louder than his bike he's not worth having a friend. The fact is this is a motor sport. Motors are loud.
