Putting the E motor in the KX chassis is exactly the same as an H motor, they are nearly identical in size and mount points. The only issue with using an E motor is parts for the E motor in the future, they are getting harder to come by. The same is also true for the H motor but to a lesser degree. If both the donor bikes are complete and running I'd probably just ride the E as is. I will say that the hybrid is a fun bike, mine is a 2001 KX125 frame and 2003 KDX220 motor.

What type of riding (terrain/skill level), and condition of the bikes are a few other things to consider. I agree with bufftester though...If the kdx is in rideable shape, hit the trails, and see if you like it as is.
Any pics?

Not the best condition , I have a 1990 and 1996 so had the chance of this for the engine

Hi. Look through some old posts. I think there is info in there about using the 1989 - 1994 engine in a 1999 - 2002 KX125 frame.
Thank you for participating on kdxrider.net. :bravo:

Hi guys engines out and getting rebuilt , I have been looking through the site regarding the pipe and silencer and believe I will have to use a 96 onwards kdx pipe which will require a small spacer or extension welding on and I believe a kx 250 tail pipe , can anyone confirm this before I start the purchase of these please

I'm not sure on the pipe year range part, but on mine (97 kx frame/00 200 engine) I used the down tubes off the kdx, among other reasons, but to not have to ad the pipe extension. Most just extend it though. One thing I was thinking was if I smash the pipe, I just want a new one to just bolt on...a lot depends on the exact motor position.

I suggest to keep reading, as you already have been. Even if its a different year chassis/motor combo. That's how I found out about the 250 silencer thing. Bolted to the chassis, and matched the pipes diameter. Some modification was needed between the pipe and silencer can though...
Sounds like your on the right track.

Thankyou and appreciate the feed back , seems a bit like get the engine in and have a play around with engine positions to get the exhaust set before welding engine mounts up

I think the main thing to consider is sprocket placement, then intake/exhaust. Motor mounts after everything is where you like it. On mine, the stock kx head stay held everything just right. Sprocket, and intake where perfect. Since I used the kdx down tubes, the motor mounts, loops, and pipe clearance where already there. Some fitment was needed though to the frame. The tubes had to be notched/bent over the pipe to center on the frame. Also, the frame, where it "splits" going towards the swingarm had to be notched/bent down to meet the kdx tubes. Sounds harder than it was...The hardest part was actually cutting into the kdx...😣
Just because I did it doesn't meen it's the way to go for you, but is something to consider.
