kdx 200 in a ktm 200 chassis

Started my hybrid project. Got a good deal on a KTM200 chassis with everything minus the engine, pipe, and electricals.

I started trying to fit the engine last night and it's amazing how much easier it seems like it's going to be. It seems like KTM ripped of Kawi when they built this 200. The rear-lower engine mount almost lines up and the sprocket looks like it's lined up too. I can even make a bracket so that I don't even have to cut the mounts out of the frame.

I assume you're asking why not cut the mounts. I can think of two reasons.

The most important, I don't have to paint the frame.
Next, faster.
Third, I don't know how to weld and don't have a welder so I don't have to waste time trying to get someone else to do it.

Last night, I tried to fit up the stock kdx pipe. It rubs on the shock but I think I can just bend the pipe a little and make it fit. I'll post a pic.

Yeah, I was asking why not on the build. Seems like a perfectly good thing to do. The KDX motor is nice.
I have a CR/KDX 220 hybrid and a KTM200. I raced enduros on the CR/KDX for three years and it did very well. No problems. I bought the '08 KTM because it was a good deal and I could. The KTM is more "civilized" than the KDX motor. I suppose you could say better..... the KDX motor is funner.
dfeckel asked about the carb. It is hard to tell from the pictures, but it does look tight. Have you mocked it all up to see what goes where?

That is very true. Some of them guys are rather odd.

For example:
A CR250 throttle cable is a good alternative to the KTM cable. It is a little longer and lets you route the cable in a manner that is less likely to get hung up when you add things like an enduro computer or steering stabilizer.

I've read comments like-
"If KTM engineering wanted us to route the cable that way, they would have done it"
"I'll use the Motion Pro equivalent. I CAN'T put a JAP part on my bike!"

Sorry. The build is stalled. Now the wife wants this bike so I'm looking at options. My friend is thinking about trading his new KTM 150 engine for the KDX 200 engine that I was going to put in this build. It'll bolt right up and I haven't cut anything. I should know soon.

Why trade a good 200 engine for a crappy KTM 150?
As soon as you make the deal you'll regret it.
I'd keep going with the hybrid project (assuming it's doable for a reasonable amount of time and money).
Once you re done, your wife will most likely love the bike, and if she doesn't like it (doubt it) YOU will end up with a kick ass unique KDX.
