KDX220R head mod from RB Designs .. before and after

Post by Suzy America »

In case anyone is curious, yes this is a fine stand-alone mod to do to your bike.
Here's some before-and-after shot on the same bike, the same stretch of forest road, on two different days.
It pulls better across the band, and the RPM ceiling is a little higher. The power hit comes on harder too which was fun.

In between videos the color scheme was changed a bit .. the white shrouds were replaced with green ones, the tank was painted black, and the handguards are wearing yellow plastics.

Next mod up is the Lectron 36HV carb which should be here by Weds.

wow. I can hear the difference. NICE video. thanks. I personally appreciate no music being in your video if for no other reason than I appreciate no music being in a dirt bike video. Music just makes the dirt bike video no longer a dirt bike video. The sound of a crisp running 2 stroke is music enough.THANK YOU!

That mod got me into a little trouble here & there .. a couple times I went into corners a little too hot and had to chew up the turf to recover it. And from watching the rearview cam, I can see where the powerband hits, because the back wheel spins and starts chewing things up.

Loving this KDX experience so far .. can't wait to take it out to Tillamook State Forest :)

Thanks for showing the comparison - sounds like a pretty noticeable difference. Now I'm contemplating getting the head mod done even if I have to wait a few more weeks to get my bike back together. Ron won't be back from vacation until 4/29, but it will probably be worth the wait.

The RB mods are well worth it. I have it done to my 200 and 220. Every 220 needs to have the head mod done.

Is there a way to visually identify if RB has modded the head? My bike came with an RB carb and vforce 3 reeds. I wanted to get the head, but after watching your video my bike really sounds the same as yours with the head.
