Shoei VFX-EVO

I recently purchased a helmet based upon the newest safety design with the cheek pad removal system. My old helmets consisted of TLD, Bell & Shoei. Based upon my prior experience with a Shoei VFX-W I went with a VFX-EVO which has the ‘MEDS’ cheek pad removal design. I did look into the latest offerings from Bell, TLD, 6d, Arai, Fox, Klim and Alpinestars. Which one is best? I haven’t a clue but I did try to read up on the latest helmets. I liked the lighter weigh of the shoei at under 3 lbs for the medium, Dirt Bike mag said it was over 3 lbs but I didn’t find that to be true maybe they had a large? The TLD helmets I’ve owned came in at just over 3 lbs. The VFX-EVO comes with a single layer helmet bag, extra visor mounting screws, a couple decals and a sun limiting deflector sticker for the underside of the visor, but no extra visor. Other helmets offer extra visors, a sweet padded helmet bag which is a great deal I have gone for. I purchased the white Shoei at one of those big box multi motorcycle dealerships after talking with a sales rep for $475 plus tax. I could have bought one off eBay for the same price but with free shipping and no tax, but getting to try on the helmet before purchase was a good idea as returning the helmet for a different sized one would have been a time consuming hassle. A factory painted version retailed for over $700, I may have my helmet custom painted later on as I did on the old VFX-W a while ago. As far as fitment goes these helmets fit very snug but shoei does offer different sized cheek pads to custom fit your helmet to your head. Im relieved to find that the current craze of visors being pointed way up and allowing the suns rays to become a problem, were not found as the adjustment range on this helmet is very adequate. All in all I am fully satisfied with my new helmet, but I know there is no helmet out there that can protect you from all the hazards one encounters. Happy trails

I've had several Shoei road helmets back in my racing days, but have not tried one of the off-road models. Good looking lid! Nice to see a return to reasonable visors!
