Do you treat your ethanol laced pump gas?

Post by TwistedRoot »

I used StarTron last few years but am thinking about getting some VP Fuel stabilizer w ethanol armor. Does anyone out in KDX land have any experience with this? I only buy super unleaded fuels.Thx.

No experience with VP but had great experiences with SeaFoam. 1 ounce per gallon stabilizes for two years and its easy to get. I've used it in the KDX with no problems. I've had some really old lawn equipment gas treated with it and its always good to go. It keeps the carbs nice and clean too.

I have not tried SeaFoam despite hearing the same thing from a few guys. It may be this video that has me leaning towards VP. Maybe something subliminal..

Until I discovered Star Tron, the pilot jets in my Suzuki carbs got blocked way too many times by ethanol eating microbes & their slime. Initial mitigation involved running floats out, but that wasn't good enough. I really like the concentrated Star Tron because a little goes a long way. Since I've been using this for 3 years, it has not been necessary to clear the pilot jets. (I still run the floats out for added insurance.)

KDXGarage, it is not possible to buy pump gas without ethanol in California. The "good" grades (Chevron & Shell) have only 10% ethanol. The discount grades have more. If you buy airplane gas or race gas, then you can avoid ethanol. By the way, high octane is limited to 91 in California.

Aviation gas, known as “100 Low Lead” actually has a LOT of lead in it. It is extremely stable in storage though. Only likely problem could be needing to clean lead deposits off the spark plug more often. I’m able to get 93 alcohol free in my area at several stations so I don’t normally run 100LL, but would not hesitate to use it if I did not have alcohol free pump gas available.

billie, that is crazy. I thought there was some sort of limitation, but had no clue it was that bad.

I think I read that av-gas is not blended too well for wildly varying RPM dirt bikes.

I have a place about 20 minutes away that sells non-ethanol 93. I ued to run VP Racing U4.4 when I was racing MX a few years ago. It ran quite well, but like everything else, the price is cray now.
