Fork Leak Due to Pits, Have a few questions

Post by gumbo583 »

I payed 180 bucks for kx125 forks from 2004 with a front wheel and clamps, it was a very good deal. Apparently this deal was a little too good to be true. They were leaking a little so I sent them off for replacement seals. Unfortunately, I did not see the pits in the fork chrome, which is causing it too leak and tear seals A LOT. So my question is, what other fork (if I cannot find a 2004 kx125 fork) can I put in the 2004 kx 125 clamp and have it fit my brakes and axel? I found some KX250 forks from 04/05, and I am wondering if those would fit.
I am a lazy 16 year old who does not wanna look up the part numbers and I know yall are experts.

Do they also fit the same brakes, axel, and wheel? Thank you so much for the help.

Pull up a parts fiche and do some cross referencing with part numbers and fitment on various bikes.

Alright I pulled up the part numbers on the 125 and 250, they both have the same part number for the brakes and axel. This means they should fit right? Thanks so much for the help you’re amazing.

Same part number is the same part number. Buy with confidence.
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Is the pitting so bad that you can’t sand it out? I’ve seen a video about sanding out nicks and burrs from a dirt rider magazine mechanic but they were small imperfections. He was using a 400 grit emery cloth.

He even recommended lightly sanding the whole fork legs every time you rebuild them. I won’t remember which video it was but I think his name is Scott Gustafson.

Edit: I had it saved in my favorites. This video works really well for those who have KX swapped forks.

I brought the forks to a guy and he sanded them out but they still tore the seal. The guy who sold them to me probably knew this but didn’t want me to know.

You can buy a replacement lower tube from SDI or Technical Touch.
