Decided against the Drz400 forks as too heavy duty and difficult to buy light springs and picked myself up a set of fully rebuilt xr400r forks, at 43mm these should slide right in to the kdx triple clamps, anybody done this conversion before and have any tips

Thumpertalk.com has multiple threads showing how to re-valve them and make them work much better.

Good link thankyou. Seems like removing 6 shims and 2.5w oil is the way to make these forks plush.

Interesting. I’m actually pretty happy with the stock forks but I’ve been curious about some of the older XR and DR conventionals. I ride mostly tight single track so I have no interest in an upside down fork. Have you tried these yet? Are they sprung a bit heavier than the KDX?
Progressive or straight wound springs?
I’ve always loved the fork on my 1985 XR350R and have often thought about trying a set of XR springs in one of my KDXs. Now I’m curious how your conversion worked out as well. Are you happy with it? Is it as comfortable, compliant, and as forgiving as the stock fork? Any difference in offset that disturbed the handling?

Only just saw your post goofaroo, I'm stuck in Australia due to covid and can't get me and the forks back to Thailand where I live so won't be able to use and test these forks, I recently got to ride an rmx250 that uses 45mm showa forks and thought it was so much better than the kyb from the kdx. With my kdx forks I removed 8 shims, used 2.5w fork oil and the standard 0.32 springs and still thought it was harsh but I only weigh 65kg
