2007 KLX250 Fork Swap?

Post by hrchins »

Hi Guys, Wondering if anyone has found that the 2006/2007 KLX250 forks will accept the KDX brake, front wheel and axle. I tried searching the forums but couldnt find anything on this year range KLX. I know the earlier models will swap with little mods other than the trees and stem. I found a good deal on some 2007 KLX250 forks and the clamps on the lower end of the forks look identical to the KDX stockers, but wondering if anyone has done it successfully. Thanks for your help!

Hey thanks for the reply Jason. Looks like according to a few sources (all probably using wikipedia) the front suspension travel is 11.2 inches

These are what I am looking at. I am pretty set on the klx forks since I want to eliminate the underhang, prefer a "trail" type suspension, and already have 2 sets of front wheels for the KDX and know that this is a direct swap. I am currently a little sore since I was able to find 1995 KLX650R front forks on Ebay for less than $100 and ordered them, but the Fedex lost them! and I know I aint finding another set for sub 100 bucks. So the search continues which lead me to these.

OK. I think I must have been thinking about the 2009+ models.

Look on partzilla.com and see which parts are the same between the two models.

Don't forget to buy some triple clamps.

I encourage you to keep the races with the bearings if possible.

Looks like the parts all match up for the brake and hub. The only difference is that the axle on the KDX is a 41068A and the KLX is a 41068. According to the diagrams they look about the same.

So add the 06-07 KLX250S to the list of forks that will theoretically direct swap!

You are looking at reference numbers, not part numbers. You need to start all over again on comparisons. Kawasaki part numbers are 12345-6789.

For example: KLX250S front axle (other part numbers might work, but this is just info on the part number, it will show which other models used the exact same part number)

Beyond that, just hope you can find someone who has tried to swap in parts from two different models. There is no encyclopedia of what fits what or can be easily replaced, etc.

This Kawasaki 41068-0013 AXLE,FR fits the following models and components:

Kawasaki Motorcycle 2004 Super Sherpa (Canada Only) - KL250-G8 FRONT HUB

Kawasaki Motorcycle 2007 KLX300R - KLX300A7F FRONT HUB

Kawasaki Motorcycle 2007 KLX250S - KLX250H7F FRONT HUB

Kawasaki Motorcycle 2006 KLX300R - KLX300A6F FRONT HUB

Kawasaki Motorcycle 2006 KLX250S - KLX250H6F FRONT HUB

Kawasaki Motorcycle 2006 KDX200 - KDX200H6F FRONT HUB

Kawasaki Motorcycle 2005 KLX300R - KLX300-A10 FRONT HUB

Kawasaki Motorcycle 2005 KDX200 - KDX200-H11 FRONT HUB

Kawasaki Motorcycle 2005 KDX220R - KDX220-A12 FRONT HUB

Jason,

I took the 2005 KX250 front end off of my 06 KDX. For my weight, the stock set up was ideal. I’m willing to sell my pile of parts, though I’ll be honest, one of the KX forks are leaking. I have the triples, forks, steering tube, both bearings, front wheel, brake caliper, master, and line. I’m in eastern PA and can ship if you’re interested in buying it.

Hi. I don't need any forks myself. I am just trying to help him with his forks.

If you want to sell them, place an ad in the For Sale section.

What are you looking to get for them?

Jason - Where are you finding the above info at? Also in the parts fiche that I look at it appears they only use reference numbers...

Any of the online parts houses, I use Motosport a lot and Rocky Mountain ATV. Also on the Kawasaki page under Owners Center select Parts. Then on the resulting page scroll down and use the boxes to find your bike and the OEM parts diagrams

Sadly, the Kawasaki web site's diagrams do not show the correct quantity on part numbers. They are all just 1, 1, 1, etc.
