99 KX125 clamp to 97 KDX stem needed knurling, the machinist also used locktite. He said you could put the stem in the clamp and spin it around

2000 KDX stem into 2001 KX125 triple, no knurling.

Both stems measured 30.15mm DIA
Both triples measured 30.13mm DIA

So it is about a .02mm press fit. It took 10 tons to press out the KDX stem and 1 or 2 tons to press the KDX stem into the KX lower triple.

OK...so I don't live in Florida and I STILL don't know how to vote. This poll don't look like the others, don't say 'closed' but don't work, neither.

'99 KX250 forks/clamps
KDX stem from FRP (don't know what year)

DID knurl..the clamp not the stem (I think). The machinist didn't have the OD knurlmaker.

Didn't HAVE to do it. The Loctite used (609) was well up to the task had it NOT been knurled. 609 is good for something like .003" difference in mated parts. Mine wasn't that much.

There is another product good for up to .007" I recall. Check the Loctite specs before you jump off a bridge believing those figures.

Bringing this back from the dead, and also my first post here. '01 KX250 did not require knurling. I don't know what year the stem is out of though, as I bought it off of this site.

2000 KDX 200 Stem pressed right into 97 KX 125 clamps. I was going to use my 87 200 stem, it was a little shorter than the 2000 and avoid using the spacer but it would of had to be knurled.

I didn't vote because I've got YZ forks in . . . but a '98 YZ125 USD stem required knurling for my '03 220.

I have a 2005 KDX and bout 2003 Kx forks. I tokk the bottom triple to my buddy's machine shop to press out the stems. The KX stem came out easily. The KDX stem didn't want to come out. We decided to sacrafice the lower clamp on the KDX by cutting a slit in the back side of it. This allowed the stem to come out with less pressure applied.

The KDX stem was not a loose fit. He decided that it neither required knurling nor any kind of Loctite. We pressed it in and then pressed on the bearings using the inner part of an old one to press against.

a little heat on the KDX lower may have saved it from the scrap bin.
