Are we able to confirm that the KDX stem is the same on all models?

Although the stem may share the same measurements but the part numbers may be different due to changes in the lower clamp assembly. Here is what I got from buykawasaki.com:

95-97 KDX200 - 44037-1331
98-05 KDX220R & 98-06 KDX200 - 44037-1369

*EDIT*
Here is for the rest of you KDX Rider wannabee's, jokin'.

93-94 KDX200 - 44037-1282
89-92 KDX200 - 44037-1248
86-88 KDX200 - 44037-1193

KX250, Post 1990, that share identical part numbers for lower clamp assembly:

98-00 - 44037-1371
96-97 - 44037-1338
92-94 - 44037-1298
All other years up to and including 06 have different part numbers, this does not mean they do not share the same stem measurements.

Make sure to include the year and model of KDX you did the conversion to.
Phil.

98 KDX stem to 02 KX bottom clamp = needed to be machined down. :?

My KDX stem is made from steel with a square hole in it for the steering lock. Keep in mind my stem is Aussie and I believe it's different.

1995 KDX200 with 1994 KX125 front end. No knurling required, 5 to 10 tons to press the KDX stem into the KX clamp.

'99KX250 bottom clamp...KDX 'H' stem from Fredette (don't know what year).

Mine was 'loose' to the tune of .002" as I recall. My KX clamp came without a stem.

My stem was knurled. Not my choice, but the machinist said he did not have an ID knurling tool.

I also used Loctite:

Image

This product is spec'd as good for cylindrical fits of up to .005" (I recall..double check the /.pdf on the Loctite site if you care to). There is a 'stronger' product that is good for another couple thou. This Loctite product is designed for such cylindrical press fits. It is NOT a thread locking compound spaz'd in place of what should be used.

So...why did I knurl anyway? 'Cuz I'm paranoid. I do not think it was necessary.

There are other pics in the gallery of the spacers I used to get the top clamp up past the KDX stem bolt threads.

My bike's 'attitude' is correct. It's as level as it was with the KDX forks. I measured before and after to make sure of that. I AM using Devol pull rods set to 1.5mm+!!

Just a wild (well kinda) guess CC, maybe your stem came from a 95-97 KDX200?

It took about 12 tons to press my stem in. I did not check the clearance, but I doubt .002 " would require that much force :hmm:  .

I used a '97 KX Clamps for my '03 KDX220. No knurling needed. Stem was measured and was same diameter.

I used a 2003 KX triple clamp for my '02 KDX200. No knurling needed. Stem and triple clamp hole was measured and was same diameter. Stem measured 30.17 mm and triple tree clamp hole 29.96 mm. I used a digital caliper for the measurements.
