2005 kx250f forks

Post by Conwaym1 »

Does anyone know for sure if the KDX steering stem is a direct fit into a 2005 kx250f bottom triple clamp? I have been searching but not found exact response yet. Different bearing part numbers.

Short answer is yes, the lower bearing on the KDX200H/220 is the same as the lower bearing on the 2005 KX250. The upper bearings are different. IIRC the stem lengths are also different, with the KX stem being a bit longer. You could use the KX250 upper by machining a spacer/sleeve which is what RB Designs used to do.

The KDX upper bearing is 47mm OD, 25mm ID and 15mm H (32005JRRS)
lower bearing is 55MM OD, 30mm ID and 17mm H (HI-CAP 32006JRRS)

The KX250 upper bearing is 52mm OD, 28mm ID and 16mm H (HI-CAP 320/28JRR)
lower bearing is 55mm OD, 30mm ID and 17mm H (HI-CAP 32006JRRS)

Don't forget, some KDX stems require knurling to fit properly into some KX lower triple clamps.

Welcome to kdxrider.net.

Which KDX model are you asking about??

The 1995 - 1997 KDX and KDX220R stems are about 7 thousandths of an inch smaller diameter than the 1998 - 2006 part.

This Kawasaki 44037-1331 HOLDER-FORK UNDER fits the following models and components:

Kawasaki Motorcycle 1997 KDX200 - KDX200-H3 FRONT FORK (KDX200-H1-H3)

Kawasaki Motorcycle 1995 KDX200 - KDX200-H1 FRONT FORK (KDX200-H1-H3)

Kawasaki Motorcycle 1996 KDX200 - KDX200-H2 FRONT FORK (KDX200-H1-H3)

Kawasaki Motorcycle 1997 KDX220R - KDX220-A4 Front Fork (KDX220-A4)

1993 and newer KX models used a larger head tube and upper bearing. The KDX upper bearing will not fit onto the 1993 + stems.

2003 and newer KX have a 6 mm taller stem than older KX.

I assume the OP has a lower triple that he wants to press the steering stem out of and press in the KDX stem

Thank you for the info. I did get the KDX stem presses into the KX triples and now need the top spacer that RB used to sell. Anyone have a solution for the top spacer if RB no longer sells one?

Thank you. I seen you offer up making the spacer for the top KX triple clamp. Is that something I can get from you? I have everything ready to go except a solution to that spacer. : ). Thank you

I've made a few of the spacers but I'm in Canada so shipping might take a couple days.

I might be able to make one. Let me see if I can find the specs I drew up for it.

This is the drawing Jeff Fredette used for the sleeve (bottom right hand corner) I just put in Doakley’s 220 with the conversion.

Please note you can have them machined out of different materials, but he recommends stainless steel, which is what we did. If you guys want him to do you one he would probably do a gross of them and make them available for sale.

The one he did for me fits like a glove.

Hello everyone. I have a 2004 kdx220 and I’m looking to do do this fork conversion. I have a local guy selling the entire front end and with the wheel off of a 2012 kx250f. Would that be a compatible setup. If called rb designs but just got the voicemail. Any input would help. Thank you!
