There is a little play in the shock body (with new rod guide) anyone know if these are available?

They are usually included in shock rebuild kits which can be found on most online distributors sites. I have seen them separately in a couple places, but have no experience in ordering them separately.

Technical Touch has the piston band and o-ring. You can get them online or at a local dealer through Tucker or other distributor. 44 mm band

bufftester, there is no KDX kit.

Yeah, that's why I said usually in a kit, I have a KX shock and there are kits for it. Just found them at Pro-Tec as well.

DO NOT forget to buy a new o-ring. When you look at the old one, it will amaze you. :-)

Look at the Technical Touch part numbers, then go shopping for those.

There is just one o-ring behind the piston band on our 89+ KDX shocks.

Wow, great information I didn't recall even seeing an o-ring on the piston. Guess I would have found it when cutting the ring off though. What is the best method to install a new one? Is a special tool needed?

Many times after a shock piston ring is installed onto the piston, the ring must be compressed (shrunken) to correctly function. Home mechanics will tightly wrap the ring with stetched electrical tape. The average wrap quantity is 20. A few home mechanics even place the wrapped piston in a freezer.

What about this idea? I'm thinking about 3 to 4 wraps with electrical tape with a tightened hose clamp placed over the tape.

I'm a 15 to 20 wraps inside out kind of guy.

Congratulations to anyone out there that can afford to have a custom made band sizing kit of tools for 44 mm bands. :bravo:

I bought two KYB 44 mm shock piston o-rings & two bands (rings) in June 2022 from Pro-Tec Racing in Murietta, CA. Web address is https://pro-tec.us/

Oh, I used an 0.005 inch (0.127 mm) feeler gauge to slip the band edge over the piston. Kinda like a tire spoon on wheel rim. Lots of shock oil, too. Worked well for me.
