Guys what type of rock guard or pipe shield are you using on your aftermarket pipes ? Where to look for them,any better than some others?

The Moose aluminum pipe guard is a stud. It's hard to get it bent to match your pipe but when it's installed....it can take a whoopin' . I've dropped my bike 1,000 times and the pipe is still straight.

That's what I use too. They are very thick. Beware of imitations! They look like aluminium foil compared to Moose. Moose is what you want

The Moose is tough as nails and does not hold moisture like the fiberglass guards do



I used a mapp gas torch and a rubber mallet to form it more easily to the pipe

I had one on my last bike and it was tough, but the mud and dirt gets in behind it to rub on the pipe. I would recommend to take it off to clean behind it every once in a while.

Hmmm mine does not get anything behind it, not that it would matter if it did, it's not a Barbie bike

Yes, It may rub and scratch the finish under but I don't care too. My KDX is not a showroom affair. This is a tool, a tool to fight against the elements and roll on whatever I put in front of it!

There was a post a few days ago that you were complaining about things that catch mud. And as far as I know the pipe guards are made for "Barbie Bikes".Do you use yours to help prevent dents or as a heat shield to keep your stockings from melting?

Mine does not catch anymore mud than the pipe does all by itself

sloppy installation of that guard will catch too much mud! The part we see in Wibby pic looks like that guard is a second skin to the pipe. Nice job I think.

The point I was trying to make is that they WILL get dirt behind them. The dirt will rub the finish off. It seems to me that if you are putting on a pipe guard you must want it to last a long time... The dirt behind the guard WILL wear the finish off the pipe, with no finish the pipe will rust faster. Rust = thinner metal. I am not saying that they are bad or that they should not be used, just that if you do use them you should take them off once in a while to get the dirt out from behind them. Not just for the beauty pageant but for the longevity of the pipe. They are held on with 3 or 4 hose clamps, there is people on here that tear there bike down a few times a year just to check the grease in the shock linkage. A few hose clamps seem a little bit easier than that.

I've not seen any rubbing taking place. In order for something to "rub" there would have to be "movement"

It's form fit to the pipe, there's no moving taking place

The pipe and guard heat up and expand at the exact same rate? WOW! That is amazing! Take it off and post a pic.

I must admit I was surprised when I took mine off after being on there for 6 years, to find the pipe in such good of shape. Especially after seeing how Carvers pipe rusted completely through while he was using the FRP pipe guard

I believe he now religiously takes his guard off after every ride/washing

Then just stick with the moose and never ever ever ever take it off... Just change the pipe when it rots out and stick the old guard back on and all will be right with the world.
