Question about 1-1/8" bar mounts

I ordered some 1-1/8 bar mounts and since I didn't want to raise the bars any higher I got the kind with the studs so I could replace the stock bar mounts. Well the ones I got seem to have a slightly larger diameter stud than stock. I figured I could just dril out the hole to make them work. Anyone ever do this? Is there a reason this would be a problem?
