Have a chance to buy a 200 engine but he's not sure what year it is. Will all the liquid cooled ones interchange? And if so, would they fit the 220r frame?

There are two different models on water cooled KDX's. E series and H series... they are not interchangable. I suppose you could make it work but would require some fabrication.

How do you tell the difference between the two?

E series is 89 - 94, and pretty much all the same except the blue USD forks on the 93 and 94. H series is 95+, again, pretty much all the same.

Check the members bike profile section and look at a picture of an E series, and an H series. They are completely different. Kips valve on the H has a big cover on the front of the cylinder, the E series does not. the inner clutch cover is a bit different too, look at where the shaft comes out of the clutch cover and runs up to the KIPS assembly on the RH side.
