stator rewind questions

Hi, just did a stator rewound, is the first time doing a rewind on the stator base on Inda's thread on stator rewind. a few doubts here:
1) the copper wire is coated, after winding, do I need to sand off the coating at the tip before connection?
2) how do i make sure that the rewound stator is working before fixing it onto the bike? rather how to use a ohm meter to check? what reading to look out for?
3) does it really matters to wind the coil as neat and tight as the OEM? or a few wind that is not so perfect matters?
Thanks for all advices

1) it's a good idea to remove the varnish, soldering usually melts it off anyway, but a crimp will not guarantee a good connection.
2) I remember seeing something a long time ago that had resistance estimates for a given gauge and length of wire. No idea where to find that now. Google.
3) Best is perfect winds, a few goofy ones won't kill you.
Vibration can cause the winds to chafe and wear the varnish off in spots. Good coils are potted.

You can lacquer dip the coil....it will help with vibration chaffing....
It should be wound as tight and as neat as humanly possible.

Thanks for all advises and tips....on the part of winding...think i didnt do a good job of keeping it as uniform...some gaps in between sometimes. i will just try on the bike first, see how it goes.
i did spray some insulating protective plastic coating on the coil wire, hope it works fine.
did not scrape off the wire coating, will redo that of course. thanks for the tips. hope I will get a better lighting.

Thanks mike for the calculator. there is resistance shown across two point from the wound lighting coil, which I am now sure that the coil does works to a certain extent. but dont know how much output it will provide.
Btw the KDX 200 SR model have infact 2 lighting coil connected in series on the stator. Maybe I will also try to connect 2 lighting coil in series.

I tested mine with a voltmeter, just checking that there was continuity, because I had no specs for resistance. Yes, you need to scrape the coating off the ends to solder them on.

I would love to see a pic of that setup.

Hi guys, can somebody give me instructions on how to go about posting pics here. got some of the SR model stator pics and the rewound coil pics that I want to post here.
thanks for any help.

You have to have an account on Photobucket or flikr or some other pic hosting site... they are free. Upload them there and then come back here and post the code as follows... [img::]

the first photo is the coil that i have rewound using the KDX 200 SR model stator coil.
the 2nd photo shows the OEM coil to the extra mounting location that the SR model have.
the 3rd photo also show the close up of the OEM and the mounting place.
the 4th photo show the final product of the rewound stator. left the expoxy to be done yet.
the last photo show my 1992 KDX 200 SR model in Singapore.

I'd love to have that stator setup on my KDX... that thing should light the ski!

I always wondered if the SR stator setup would work on a US Spec KDX. Visually it looks like it would be a drop in replacement.

Yes it would, I am also using the USA H series stator in my bike now. will try out the rewound one too.

Thanks for the pics. That looks like the setup for killer lighting. Now, were can we pick up an SR stator setup? Using an H series stator on a E, would have never even thought of that.
