Need to know if my 02 KX frame / sub frame is powder coated or painted.
How do you tell?

Thanks

Well if it looks like the stock color its more than likely painted.

I just got my 2 frames powder coated. Its very easy to tell if something has been powder coated because it looks and feels almost like its been dipped in vinyl. Up close, it looks differently then paint.

Just out of curiosity, why do you ask the question?

It looks like the kawi lime green.
I'm almost done with my hybrid build and the powder coater asked me. They would charge an extra 50 bux (on top of the 160 for blasting and powder coat) to remove the previous coating.

What did you do on yours? Color scheme?
I'm still not sure what color I will do it. I'm leaning toward a metallic silver similar to the 05 KDX frame. I think it'd look better than ALL kawi green like stock, seems that would be too much.

It's either that or a nice purple  or even better: hot pink :busted:

One frame black. Getting black rim. Second bike silver metalic. Both swing arms silver metalic.

I will post pictures if I ever get everything put together. Working on bottom ends right now.

I paid $400 to get everything sand blasted with double coats of powder coating. I would recommend double coats or atleast top clear coat for durability.

:supz: I dig the green touches espacially the hubs. Too bad I already laced my wheels cuz I'm NOT taking them apart too coat them, to much of a pain :? + I'll have to remove my new bearings and replace them again so not worth it, maybe next winter.

I'm not sure if I'll do the swing arm, might leave it as it is, it's been polished a little and I might finish it if I get the time

If you have'nt done some kind of clear coat on the swingarm you should, because the acid in dirt will dull the polish fast.

Canuck,

Your bike looks sweet. I was thinking of getting a green shock spring. Now, I wish I did. I wish that made monster graphics for kdx. They look nice too.
